Be well prepared if you have to live in Vietnam with all the advice and information you need. The author provides you with practical tips on what to bring, what to prepare and where to go. In addition, discover fascinating insights into the inner world of the people, their culture, traditions and etiquette as well as practical tips on how to do business with the Vietnamese. CultureShock! Vietnam is a must-read for anyone who wants to visit or make his home in this intriguing and exotic country!
But I want to add some of my personal experiences, too.
For every really interested traveller going to a foreign country, especially an exotic one, the CultureShock Book is a real Must-Read.
This series is a precious adviser on almost everything a "Stranger in a Strange Land" has to know... and then to live in the country that we enter.
Especially in the Asian countries where the "Face" and its very easy loss because of misbehaviour, mostly unwilling - these books are a real well of knowledge.
The most important informations are often in the "Religion" department - the most obvious are: No Shoes on Temple Grounds, the Right Dress Code for Men and Women, Women have to Stay Away from the Monks, the Donations etc...)
And especially: How to ignore or circumvent the question of the "war" is in some places still a very "hot" item!
So I can only confirm: the Culture Shock Book about Vietnam has been very very helpful for me on my voyage.
The "lessons" are very entertaining too, there are language hints, there is a Traveller's Quiz at the end, and history, mostly a very dry department, is also not too boring :)
Like I said: A real Must-Read for every responsable and interested traveller!
