An ideal book for courses in medieval history, literature and art history

In book "The Medieval World View: An Introduction", 3rd edition, authors William R. Cook and Ronald B. Herzman give us a glimpse of medieval society, its culture, arts and religions. The book is divided into five parts, namely, p.1: Foundations of the Middle Ages, p.2: The Mediterranean World, p.3: The Early Middle Ages, p.4: The High Middle Ages, and p.5: Epilogue. It includes thirteen chapters. I found three chapters are very fascinating which describe history of arts in Europe. These chapters are namely: (11) The Renaissance of the Twelfth Century, (12) Francis of Assisi and the Mendicants and (13) From Medieval to Renaissance. This book is ideal for courses in medieval history, literature and art history.

Explanations are helpful.

This was a required text book for my class. The explanations before the piece of literature were helpful. The subject in general is just confusing to me. But that's not the books fault. However, my instructor didn't like the book either, and he's the expert.
