a whodunit with a train

Moonlight Express is rather different with a train as a main character. That makes it fact and fiction even fantasy. I know the area written about and relate to the whole book.
as a whodunit rather good and hard to put down. Ending comes rather quickly but words chosen well. Congratulations Geoff what next?

Moonlight Express

I read this book in two days, simply because I could not put it down.
It is written by an Australian Author and is a must read for anyone overseas who is interested in Australia. The story is captivating with unexpected twists and turns. At first, there appeared to be a ghostly steam locomotive terrifying the local inhabitants, living in the shadow of the Great Dividing Range,( a mountain range, which runs from the State of Queensland right down the Eastern side of Australia to Victoria.) However as we get into the story there is a much more sinister plan unfolding, a threat to the freedom and way of life of all Australians.
The characters are superb. Tessa Scott, a young high profile Aussie city lawyer with a country upbringing, can shoot, fish and use unarmed combat to her advantage. A courageous young woman, who appears to thrive on mystery and adventure and is always willing to help anyone in need. Her British friend, (who could possibly be her 'romantic interest' but the Author kept us guessing a little there,) is Professor Hugh Bainbridge, a quietly spoken gentleman with a penchant for quoting poetry, and a surprising knowledge of self- defense.
The other two main characters are the down to earth Aussie 'bushie' brothers, Walter and Emil Steiler, both rough diamonds but extremely dependable and who have hearts of gold. I enjoyed the comparison between Hugh's very correct and restrained English manner of speech and the brothers' forthright Aussie interaction.
The villains were deceptive and perfectly nasty, hiding behind an aura of respectability, but who, in reality, were scheming, dangerous extremists. I won't give away just who they were or how they fitted into the diabolical plan, you must read that for yourself.
This was a most enjoyable book, with a good blend of mystery and suspense and just a tiny hint of romance. The characters were very believable and the story is extremely well written.

THRILLING SUSPENSE

A wonderfully written tale of intrigue and secrecy. This story is so ethereal that anyone who enjoys ghost stories will be drawn in. Myself, I haven't read a good suspense drama for years and I could picture all of the action as if it were a thriller movie. In fact, it should be made into one. Try as I might I could not work out the plot and that's the workings of a great brain and brilliant mystery cunning. I can see Nicole Kidman acting in the role of Tessa and Hugh portrayed by someone like Sean Connery.
Diablo (devil), what a name for the mysterious chuffing monster. How could it just appear and then vanish at will? Who were the conspirators and what were they hoping to achieve?
Got you thinking? Not to give away the weaving of the tale, you will have to find out the ending for yourself. Well done Geoff Barlow, I hope to read more of your ingenious.
