About the Author
Judith Fertig is an award-winning cookbook author whose food and lifestyle writing has appeared in more than a dozen publications, including "Bon Appetit", "Saveur", and the "New York Times". Judith attended the Ecole de Cuisine La Varenne in Paris and the Graduate Summer Workshop at the University of Iowa Writers Workshop. She teaches cooking classes across the country and lives in Kansas City.

Tanya Eby has been a voice-over artist for over a decade. She is an Audie-nominated and AudioFile Earphones Award-winning narrator. Besides narrating, Tanya spends her time teaching creative writing classes at the collegiate level, blogging, and working on her own novels.

It Tastes Just Right

This book was not the story as advertised, as a matter of fact this book is quite strange. There is an undercurrent, an under storyline that does not make sense until nigh near the end. I am still not sure why this under storyline is needed, it is more of a stand alone book, the two stories do not seem to jive.

That said, this had a nice romance/mystery line running through it. Claire O'Neill has come home to Ohio, she is escaping a marriage she can't quite face. She is a baker, and has made arrangements sight unseen for an old building to be made into a new bakery. And, her grandmother, who is now in an old age home, has left her house to Claire or Neely as she is known. The same builder has redone much of her home. So, as she rides up in her rental truck, life a new begins.

Tbroughout the book, as Neely is trying to make her bakery a go. We are introduced to people in the 1800's, 1944 and then the present. This older timeline as I have said does not fit and was annoying to begin with. It was not until the end when 2+2 started to add up, that I became interested. A lot of characters in this book, most of them have a place, and this is the story I wanted. No recipes intertwined, only lots of different kind best of butter creams, cakes and infusers, cupcakes, cookies, frostings, early morning cupcakes, coffee cakes, rolls, lots of cinnamon, and more, but no recipes to share.

Neely also can feel a taste when she meets someone new, a salty, or sweet, or orange mousse taste in her mouth. Thus gives her a feel for what kind of person this is, and what they may want in a bakery product. And, as the book says along with the cake, she provides silence or reverence or advice. I would imagine this will expand if more books are baked. The secrets she finds, she is able to find some sort of answer. And, her marriage, well, go eat cake.

Four stars: A lovely book that blends the past and present with delicious cake.

Claire is anxious to see her new bakery. After years in New York City working as a pastry chef, Claire returns home after the demise of her marriage. She is putting everything into her Rainbow Cake Bakery, hoping that her gift for tasting feelings can translate into success. Things are off to a good start, until Claire starts getting an unpleasant taste in her mouth. Something isn't right in Millcreek. When she interacts with her clients and neighbors, Claire is able to uncover bit by bit the history of some of the people and their secrets. Will Claire learn the truth about the long ago story that haunts her?
What I Liked:
*I personally adore a magical realism book that is all about comfort and coziness. The Cake Therapist combines several things that I love from a small town, cozy bakery, delicious and decadent sweet treats, a small town mystery and a sprinkle of magic. This book had me craving cake and cupcakes. If you want a sweet read that is perfect for when you crave something on the light and fluffy side, grab a copy of Cake Therapist. My best advice, don't read this while you are hungry.
*I was surprised at first by the way the book came together. It starts out in the modern day following Claire as she establishes her new bakery. Then you get these flashbacks, the first going back to 1908 and then the subsequent ones are around the WWII era. At first, I found the visits to the past jarring, as I wasn't sure how they related to the story. *However, as the book progressed with each flashback, more details were uncovered, and I soon found myself invested in the story of Olive and Edie. It wasn't exactly clear how these events tied into the story, but patience pays off, and by the end, everything fit, and I was satisfied with the way it all played out. I ended up enjoying the blending of the past with the present. Just be patient while reading this, it will all become clear.
*This book has two plots, one that follows the mystery of the ring and the sisters in the past, and then Claire's story in the future. Claire's journey is one of transformation as she comes home, establishes a bakery and sets out to use her talent of taste and uncovering secrets. I liked watching Claire work her magic, especially when she does wedding cake tastings. By the end, Claire has come a long way, and I liked the new path she set herself on. I am interested to follow up on her journey in the second book.
*I adored Rainbow Cake Bakery. There is something so relaxing and pleasant when reading a book that takes you into the cozy confines of a bakery. I loved reading about all the different cakes, cupcakes and treats that were baked in the bakery. There is lots of detail and description, you can almost taste the treats. Don't read this one while you are hungry or you will find yourself with a huge hankering for something sweet.
*This book has a rather large cast of characters, and I found myself engaged and interested in the different personalities and stories. There are so many interesting side stories from Jett, the young goth baker, to the budding romance between the Professor and Maggie, as well as the interesting romance between Roberta and Thomas. If you like books with lots of small sideline storylines and a big, eclectic cast, immerse yourself into the lives of the folks in Millcreek.
*I am a big fan of magical realism. In this book, Claire has a unique gift for being able to taste flavors when coming into contact with others, and once she opens herself up to the flavors someone is putting off, she can sees glimpses into their past and learns some of their secrets. I thought the whole idea with the magical flavors was fun and unique.
*The ending is a bit fast and abrupt, it doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but I was a bit perplexed that the book concluded, there were many stories that weren't played out. I was relieved to learn that there is a second book coming, and hopefully there are more in the works. I am anxious to read The Memory of Lemon.
And The Not So Much:
*One thing that I felt held this book back was that it lacked focus. It was as if the story took on too much. While I liked the various characters and their stories, I was a bit disappointed that more of the side stories didn't come to fruition. I felt this book bit off more than it could chew. I think it would have benefitted by not having so many secondary plots and characters, and by bringing more story lines to a close before adding new ones.
*The ending was fast paced in comparison to the rest of the book. It ended a abruptly, and I was left with a few nagging questions. I didn't realize going in that this was the first book in a series. I am relieved that more story is coming as I am anxious to follow up on Maggie, Jett, Ben, Claire's father and more.
*Claire returns home after her marriage falls apart. I was a bit frustrated that there wasn't a bit more depth and detail on her marriage. There are tidbits of information dropped here and there so the reader can piece together a general idea of what happened, but this is one area of the story that needed more depth. It is a big and important part of Claire's journey and I wanted a clearer picture of her life with Luke.
*The one thing that bothered me regarding the story in the past, was that it was never revealed who Edie's attacker was. Was he the one who left the shoe?

The Cake Therapist was a sweet, cozy read that was unique. I liked the magical realism and the way the author blended the past and the present. The Rainbow Bakery with all of its decadent treats makes the book shine. It does have a large cast of characters and many side stories, so if you aren't one that likes multiple points of view and numerous secondary story lines, you might not like this. I personally loved the eclectic cast of characters and their stories. Grab this book with a sweet treat and cozy up for a delightful read. I am anxiously awaiting the second book.

More serious than frothy

With all its descriptions of exquisite, deliciously flavored baked goods this is the kind of book that makes you hungry. The story isn't the light, frothy confection I was expecting though (based on the cover I have to admit.) Instead it's a sometimes troubling tale of unraveling secrets. Claire "Neely" O'Neil moves back to her hometown in Ohio to open a bakery, Rainbow Cake, because her marriage is failing. She's reunited with her old friends from high school, but is often anxious and maybe even a little depressed by her situation. Her ability to "taste" feelings and match people to the flavors they need is interesting but isn't used often.

During Claire's part of the story the narrative is in the first person, but there's also a story line set in the past and those sections switch to the third person. It took me a long time to understand the significance of the second story line, so I had some trouble maintaining interest whenever we jumped back in time and it slowed the book down for me. Still, I understand this is the first of a series I'd like to see where the author takes it next.

About the Author
Ray V. Herren has been actively involved in agriculture for most of his life. He grew up on a diversified farm, where he played a major role in the production of livestock. He obtained a bachelor of science degree in agricultural education from Auburn University, a master's degree in agribusiness education from Alabama A & M, and a doctorate in vocational education (with an emphasis in agricultural education) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Herren has taught at Virginia Tech, Oregon State University, and the University of Georgia in Athens, where he recently retired as head of the Department of Agriculture Leadership, Education, and Communication. In addition to being a national leader in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Alumni organization, he has served on numerous committees from the local to international level, including a national task force to develop FFA programs for middle school and the National Committee for Career Development Events. His prolific scholarly activity includes 26 journal articles, 51 invited or refereed presentations, and 12 books and manuals. He has also earned several awards for his commitment to service, as well as UGA's prestigious College of Education Outstanding Teaching Award.

Really crummy book. The text takes up only about half of each page when there aren't pictures. When there are pictures, they are almost always stock images of scientists swirling test tubes or looking at rows of crops. The paper quality is terrible- like magazine paper but much thinner. There is some good information peppered throughout the book, but overall it's just another low quality, high cost book.

Reynosa has laid out an excellent book. Heavily researched and documented. Photos include manufacturing, in use combat photos and detail close-ups. A must for the collector this book has most everything except a quick reference guide to take with you to gun shows and auctions.

Great M1 Helmet Refrence

I really like this book for its history of the M1 helmet. It has a lot of information that I have not seen in any other place. Pictures are great and most are in color. The section on the marked helmets is good too. Caution with this because you will want to try to get all the variations to complete your collection that you may not even be aware of!

Finally, A Detailed Guide Book Focused on Paraguay!

I moved to Paraguay less than a year ago. Finding information about the country was an adventure, so my search for a guide book eventually led to a somewhat dead end. I own Lonely Planet South America which has a small chapter about Paraguay. It's better than nothing, but the chapter pales in comparison to chapters written about other countries in South America.

So when I heard about this book, I was excited. It is great, with the most current information about the country. There's detailed information about not just Asuncion, the capital, but about other lesser known places in Paraguay. I particularly like that the book isn't written either from a backpacker's perspective or from a high-end traveler's perspective. It offers an objective view on Paraguay, giving information that would be helpful in any situation.

The author has lived in Paraguay a while now, so the information is reliable. I really couldn't put this book down; I was so excited to finally have a guide book about this country in which I will be living for the next two to three years.

Invaluable resource

Paraguay is often only a footnote in most guide books. This guide is the most comprehensive that I have seen, and I have been visiting Paraguay for over 30 years. It is a must if you want to discover the beauties of a country that has not fully embraced the tourist trade, but has much to offer. In it we discovered wonderful places to visit that were unknown to people living within an hour of the attraction.

Nice, nice, very nice. I moved to Paraguay for 3 years in 1975 and have visited every 18-30 months ever since. I thought I knew the country pretty well. The author provides gems of insight on places and things to do that I found astounding and wondered how I hadn't uncovered some of these same things! Her love of the country comes through in her writing. Buy this book. You will be happy you did!

Don't bother

I was looking for a book that compared & constrasted all the different project management methodologies. According to the book's description & the feedback from the other readers, this was a very good book. I was alittle apprehensive about the book because of its age, but since the book dealt with methodologies & not the latest technology, I thought I should be ok. I was terribly mistaken. The book uses a very general tone & lacks all details. To compound the issue, the author writes about methodologies that aren't used & about methodologies that were never used. This book would have been a terrible book even when it was new. I've never been so mislead by other reviews in my life.

Essential reading for experienced project managers

Regardless of whether you are a PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP), or a PRINCE2 Practitioner, or hold any other project management certification, this book will improve your skills.
It does not replace knowledge or process areas on any of the existing project management approaches, but, instead, shows you how to tailor an approach that best fits project objectives. In many ways the approach in this book is more similar to the UK PRINCE2 standard because of the emphasis on project organization and stakeholders.
For readers who hold the PMP certification this book's distinction between methodologies and frameworks, and how to select and implement the most effective methodology will add coherency to the PMBOK framework upon which the certification is based. The author's approach does not supplant or alter the PMBOK process areas. It indirectly shows how much each process area should be given during the life of the project. It also fills in gaps in the PMBOK approach with respect to project organization. This material can also be effectively used in a PMO.
The project templates and techniques are invaluable tools for any project manager. I have one issue with the book: the URL given for the downloadable templates is a dead link. However, I believe this is one of the most important books published in recent years, and it is most useful for experienced project managers who can appreciate the in-depth information the author imparts.

There is a popular Islamic tradition according to which Adam the first man made from black mud after he transgressed in the Garden, was kicked out and sent down to earth. His first home on earth was well, in India. India! Why India? Being that the Garden was directly above the earthly Mecca, it can be considered a Heavenly Mecca. This means that (the aboriginal) Adam s fall involved a journey from a celestial Mecca to India. He fell just as the sun was setting, and landed on the lofty peak of Mount Budh. This religious legend reflects on ethnographic reality: ancient India received a migration from Arabia. The above quoted report from al-Saddi has another important implication as well: the fact that the Black Stone fell to India with Adam suggests that ancient Indic religious tradition has some relation to ancient Arabian religious tradition and (thus) with Islam. What is the nature of that relationship? The intent of this work is to answer this question and document the relationship between Indic Science and Islam.

The only book of it's kind that I know of, by an African diasporan scholar, that really thoroughly explains the connections of ancient black Arabia and ancient black india. the author explains the linguistic, cultural, and most importantly, religious connections that black Africans kept from Africa to Arabia, and then india, from the inception of the migrations out of Africa.
a must have book as a resource. also explains Elijah Muhammad's ideology, which I wasn't very accepting of, until reading this. it puts a whole new perspective on what the nation of islam teaches.

Even though I read the description and everything, I expected this book to be a bit fuller and with more illustrations/examples of art. It's mostly just a very quick read about Surrealism. A few pictures here and there with a few broad descriptions of the era/movement/artists. It's okay for an extremely quick introduction but I recommend other books for deeper context. This was just too general for me.
